Dying to Please You is a dark comedy about death and dying, which we started developing in 2016, based on Tess Cartwright's personal journey with her late partner Vid Warren, an iconic Bristol beatboxer who died of brain cancer.
Dying to Please You is a mortally funny piece of theatre exploring the comedy behind death, dying and grief. Through music, dance and physical theatre we hope to interpret the world of death and dying as gentle and ridiculous. This project is an exploration into the question: can we laugh in the face of death?
Death is not widely discussed in our society but it affects everyone. Many people are affected by cancer, violence, old age and all the other possible ways to lose a loved one. We want to use comedy to uncover the raw nature of what it is to be human: "We are born to die".
